We've wrapped up the book tour, at least the formal in a bookstore tour. There are many more places to go and you can follow it on the website.
But here are some highlights:
Dark Delicacies in Burbank. A lucious store for the horror-minded. Why was I there? Because I met the proprietor Del Howison before and he is repped by the same agent I am (he's got a group of books about everything you'd want to know about horror.) So I sort of twisted his arm. I was signing with all kinds of other writers and filmakers and it seemed that all of them but me had something to do with the movies (hey, I want to play, too!)
That same day I scooted on over to Westwood to The Mystery Bookstore. My props were too much to resist for one employee who tried on Harry the Helmet for size. The Mystery Bookstore named Veil of Lies their Discovery Selection for December, which was a very nice surprise for me. I hope to sign at their booth at the LA Times Festival of Books in April of 2009.
Then it was off to the outskirts of Las Vegas to Cheesecake and Crime, where they serve up not only a great collection of mysteries but also...wait for it...cheesecake! And it's really great cheesecake! Thanks, Lendell, for being baker extraordinaire!
Needless to say, I met some very wonderful booksellers whose hospitality is unparalleled. I'm certainly no big name and didn't bring in but a handful of sales to them all, but they still gave me space and their good wishes and believe me, I am grateful for it. I've said it before and I'll say it again. The mystery community is the friendliest bunch of people I've ever had the pleasure to meet. Thank you all!
